This is a FAKE "Greco Roman" oil lamp made in Italy in the late 1800s.
It is in a surprisingly delicate and light weight ceramic.
The discuss design is not known to have been made and is copied from Slab 43 of the south Frieze of the Parthenon.
60mm.
An interesting addition to a lamp collecion I think...a genuinely old forged antiquity!
The BM catalogue is incorrect in stating that it's from Slab39. It's from Slab 43.
