October 2010

This pair sold by the same eBay seller in close succession.

.

Both described exactly the way:

Stunning decorated GREEK Apulian BLACK-FIGURE ceramic painted Wine Jug (Oenochoe) with three handles.
This beautiful red-ware vase is exquisitely adorned with black, white and brown pigments.
This wonderful vase is decorated with a sitting man in typical clothing holding a large flower in his left hand.
A stylised Greek Apulian Geometric design and two dolphins are finishing this elegant ceramic vase.
This ancient vase is complete intact and in extremely good condition!
The vase was found under a lot of soil (in the cellar of an old Greek Villa), it is almost completely cleaned.
Because it was found in the soil the paintings are in very good condition.

Well, see if you can find a Black-Figure piece attributed to Apulian manfacture!

.

Apart from the fact that they are by shape not an Oinochoe but a Hydria......

  • Same workshop.

  • Same hand.

  • Same fakes/replicas (albeit incorrectly described)

Another.

December 2010.

Another  "..found under a lot of soil (in the cellar of an old Greek Villa)...

.

As I can't monitor every seller of fakes on the internet, do  let me know if this seller offers  more from this factory. Here are their eBay IDs.

October '10

On eBay.

Fairly dangerous stuff for absolute newbies.

Though surely only a few minutes comparing with what one can see in any good  book on South Italian pottery.....

.

Look probably  from the same factory as was sold in large numbers on eBay in 2005.
