A never ending supply to satisfy the needs of incautious buyers and those who have  never really looked properly at  any Roman  bronzes in a museum or  even in a good book.

As eBay has slightly "improved" over the last couple of years , other auction  websites are being taken over by importers of Bulgarian made modern trinkets like these and which are offered as ancient.

• Notice how they come  from the same series of modern moulds.

• Notice how small differences are introduced.

• Notice how they are (badly) artificially aged in various different surface treatments.

Someone asked on the yahoo group if this bear is genuinely ancient.

Alas, no. Made in Bulgaria I gather. Sold as Roman on eBay and elsewhere sometimes as "repro" sometimes as genuine.
