YOU ARE HERE:>>REAL or FAKE>>Fake scarabs page 5.
April '10 Last year eBay at long last took some action about the enormous number of fakes offered in the "antiquities" listings and they actually threw many sellers of fakes off eBay. I visited to have a look at what's happening now. Seems like the improvement was rather temporary. Some sellers are now offering tourist souvenirs as "Egyptian style" ; but they used to offer these as genuine!
Here are some really awful fake scarabs on offer this month. All offered as genuine.
. The backs are quite nicely done, but the "hieroglyphs"...............!
As ever, sellers of fakes tend to offer the same type of fake.
I'm really puzzled why buyers dont think about how come the pieces are so clearly from the same workshop!
. And another seller......
. There are some sellers who perfectly honestly advertise their scarabs as reproduction. Unfortunately such as these will reappear on eBay offered as genuine! They are worth documenting here for that reason.
. Even these have actually been bought by eBayers in the belief that they are genuine!
. Available in Egypt to tourists for less than 50 cents!
. And easily found online at not much more from a variety of tourist souvenir sellers. . And from this seller, the fakes also from the same source.
