YOU ARE HERE:>>Real or Fake>>fake cuneiform tablets, page 5
The new collector who bought a couple of these fake cuneiform foundation cones also bought several tablets like these.
You will meet this one again later on... These are actually exceptionally badly made fakes!
Look at them next to genuine tablets!
The writing is slightly different in these as they are from different periods. The one on the left is URIII period and the other Old Babylonian.
A good way to determine if a tablet is actually genuine is to get it read!
. You can see many genune tablets here in this section.
If you have a genuine tablet you would like read by an Assyriologist; look here. .
Not all fake cuneiform tablets are so badly made as most of these shown on these pages.
This pair might fool a lot of people.
The signs are largely pseudo signs, of rather simple composition. There are others which are copying simple number signs and therefore happen to look like good cuneiform numbers.
The "penmanship" is also very shakey, not at all like an Ur III scribe, even a bad one.
AND with the second tablet above, the faker fell for the temptation of adding something one does not see on genuine tablets! . |
