My father found this silver torc  it on the beach at Abermawr in Wales, UK over 15 years ago now.

The National Welsh Museum were not helpful at the time, because my father moved to York soon afterwards and took the torc out of the Principality, which upset them greatly.  The torc was awarded to my father in coroner's court as it was found on the beach.

I later approached the Museum on behalf of my son who was working on a project, and received a fair bit of information at that point, none of which can date it.  The Welsh Museum stated it is a torc, but they are unable to date it.  My father does have a silver analysis, but we do not know where to look to make comparisons, could you help with this?

We have searched everywhere for something similar, and sent it all over the UK at the time we found it.

It is solid silver and measures 16 inches, it weighs over 16 oz.  Is there any other information that may be helpful to anyone who could help to unravel this mystery.

My father said he found it after a huge storm which has brought down part of the cliff and he thinks that part of a grave was showing.  One of the Professors who came to look at where it was found was too late as the grave had gone by the time he arrived.  He said I though it was too deep to be Ancient grave as they were too lazy to dig a deep hole, and the grave seemed to be deeper then he expected, when my father described where it was.

My father also states that there were some round house remains on his land, a stone's throw away from the where the troc was found, although I do not know if these were ever investigated.  I could make enquiries, but my father is in his 80s now and has recently had a stroke, so I am not sure how acurate information will be.

A kind of torc, yes, but very heavy, too heavy for wearing. Looks Viking to me.

Can't find a parallel; maybe it's unique.
